Here are some of Save Chelsea's current activities in 2012:

  • We are continuing to monitor the Jamestown Properties proposal for additions to Chelsea Market. Save Chelsea has joined with other local groups, including the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation (GVSHP) in opposing the proposed addition.   • We have maintained close contact with the 20th Street Park Project, and support the efforts of Speaker Quinn's office to facilitate efforts to find feasible solutions for more open park space and affordable housing in the Chelsea area. Click here for the related article in Chelsea Now.
  • Save Chelsea continues to monitor the situation regarding the illicit addition to the Hopper Gibbons House in the Lamartine Place Historic District on West 29th Street. We maintain close contact with the Friends of the Hopper Gibbons Underground Railroad Site and Lamartine Place Historic District, and continue to lend our support to the efforts to have the illegal addition removed from 339 West 29th Street.   • In addition to supporting our local zoned Public School, PS11, this summer witnesses the beginning of an education initiative with the school, introducing fourth and fifth graders to to the history of Chelsea through walking tours of the neighborhood and visits to historic sites and buildings.
  • Save Chelsea, along with other organizations, recently testified before the Landmarks Preservation Commission with regard to the proposed plans by the Brodsky Organization for properties recently purchased from the General Theological Seminary. Click here for the related article in Chelsea Now.
